Perak FA Deny Bookies Responsible For Poor Performance

IPOH, May 4 (Bernama) -- Perak FA president Datuk Zainol Padzi Paharuddin Wednesday denied allegations Perak's poor performance was a result of players 'fixing' matches due to the involvement of bookies.

Zainol said the Perak team was not involved in any match-fixing but rather such rumours were believed to have been spread as a form of provocation by some irresponsible people.

"They have associated Perak's consecutive losses to match-fixing...the Perak FA has always looked into the welfare of the players. There are also no issues on salary since the new management took over, so there is no reason for players to turn to bookies," he told reporters Wednesday.

Zainol said if proven that there are elements of bookies' involvement, Perak FA would not hesitate to take action against anyone associated.

"To me this is only an effort by some to provoke the Perak team...I hope the fans will not believe such rumours," he said.
