PETALING JAYA: Akmal Rizal Rakhli will be Perak's most important asset when they take on Super League leaders Kelantan in Ipoh tonight Akmal, who played for Kelantan last season, disclosed Kelantan's strengths and weaknesses for Perak coach Norizan Bakar to plan his moves.
"I've been there before and I know the players well. It will be rather emotional as I played alongside most of the Kelantan players when we won the Malaysia Cup for the first time last year," said Akmal.
"But life goes on and I'm now with Perak."
Kelantan lead the Super League standings with 20 points while Perak are third one point shy.
Akmal said the 2-1 defeat against Sabah on Saturday was a blessing in disguise. It was the Seladang's first loss this season.
"Everyone was frustrated in the dressing room (right after the match). But we no longer carry the burden of not losing. The players feel better and this could spur them to play better football."
The Kedah-born Akmal is adamant about winning the Golden Boot award this season.
He is not only confident of Perak winning three points but also toppling Kelantan hitman Norshahrul Idlan Talaha from the topscorers' list.
Norshahrul leads with seven goals while Akmal has four.
"We should win (tonight). My motivation is to win the Golden Boot award. Many had little faith in Perak this season but we've been proving them wrong. I hope we can go on to surprise them this season," said Akmal.
