PERAK Super League team manager Khairul Azwan Harun has kept to his word that he would quit if the team failed to finish among the top five in the 2011 league.
He made the announcement after the silver state drew 0-0 with Selangor in their last match at home to finish sixth in the table on Wednesday.
"I take responsibility for the failure of the team ... thank God I guided the team to sixth spot but it was still off the target of finishing fifth," he said in a statement.
Perak collected 40 points from 10 wins and 10 draws.
The post will be temporarily taken over by assistant team manager Ahmad Shahrul Azhar to prepare Perak for the Malaysia Cup which starts in September.
Khairul Azwan, who is also the Perak FA treasurer, said: "Although I am not the team manager anymore, I will still be involved in the financial management and also the development of football in the state."
Perak are looking for several new players to be recruited on loan to strengthen the team for the Malaysia Cup.
