GEORGE TOWN: The Red Warriors regained their position at the top of the Super League in style on Saturday but their next opponents Perak present a tough hurdle for them today.
Kelantan coach M. Karathu, who is from Perak, knows exactly what his team will face despite their resounding 6-0 win over Felda United on Saturday to top the standings.
“I may be looking forward to a pleasant home coming but we will be facing a wounded Perak who lost their unbeaten run to Sabah on Saturday.
“We have to be prepared for a stiff battle,” said Karathu after his arrival in Ipoh yesterday.
“It is not a good time to meet Perak as their pride has been dented and they will be determined to make up for the hiccup in East Malaysia in front of their home fans.
“Perak have a blend of youth and experience and going unbeaten for nine matches reflects their ability.”
This season Perak have roped in experienced hands like Akmal Rizal Rakhli, Shahrulnizam Mustafa, Shafiq Jamal and Chan Wing Hoong and they have clicked well under former national coach Norizan Bakar.
The silver state went down 1-2 to Sabah and have dropped to third in the standings but with the support of their home fans, they will definitely be a force to be reckoned with at the Perak Stadium today. Karathu is aware of the task ahead but he is optimistic that his Red Warriors will rise to the occasion and produce results that will keep them at the top.
“We may have a battle on our hands but my players have shown plenty of zest and I am sure they will be out to grab a win.”
